Choose x64 or ARM64

Open Settings › System › About and read System type. Most Intel and AMD PCs use x64. Windows on Arm devices use ARM64. The application and native plug-ins should match the selected architecture. Do not infer architecture merely from “64-bit.”

Standalone installer

The standalone installer is appropriate when you want direct control over installation and updates. The official GIMP project continues to document Windows 10 support through its installer, but requirements can change by release. Check the official page before installation.

Microsoft Store

The Store manages delivery and updates. Its minimum Windows build can differ from the standalone installer, so a Windows 10 PC that can run the EXE may not qualify for the current Store package.

Verification checklist

  • Confirm the intended architecture and exact filename.
  • Open Properties and review the digital signature before running the installer.
  • Reject unexpected offers for browser extensions or unrelated programs.
  • Keep important XCF projects and the existing profile backed up before a major upgrade.
